Who was Max Bill?

An architect, sculptor and product designer, Max Bill studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau. His association with Junghans began in the 1950’s when he was commissioned to design a kitchen clock for the company. In 1961, Max Bill started to design purist watches for the brand and Junghans ensured that the watches were at the cutting edge of technology. Max Bill is one of Europe’s greatest timepiece designers. He constantly strove for clarity and precision in his designs. Firstly, the Junghans Max Bill Damen in Purple has a 32.7mm stainless steel case with a large dial opening so you see less of the bezel and more of the dial. Since the time is the most important feature of any watch, Max Bill deliberately pared the case back to it’s simplest form. Secondly, the case size is on the large side for a women’s watch which is very much on-trend and enables easy reading at a glance.
 
Furthermore, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial. Also, the minimalist dial is in a matt white finish with the rounded typography created specially by Max Bill. This gives the watch its iconic look. Furthermore, the hours are printed in purple and are arranged around the centre of the dial with the printed minute track around the outer edge. Moreover, the hands are deliberately slim designed with functionality and accuracy in mind. To ensure precision, the pointed end of the minute hand lines up exactly with the printed minute track. The hour and minute hands as well as the quarter markers on the typographical dial are coated with a luminous Super-Luminova substance to ensure that the dial can be read in dim light.
